Americana Style- 2019 Fashion Trends

With Independance Day right around the corner, I have been thinking about Summer, Americana style and trends. According to Wikipedia, Americana is defined as artifacts, or a collection of artifacts, related to the history, geography, folklore and cultural heritage of the United States. Americana can also be defined as materials and things concerning or characteristic of The United States of America; broadly, its culture. As a Stylist and Owner of a Women’s Fashion Boutique, I think of Americana as red, white and blue, something patriotic in theme.

Does Casual Dress Mean Casual Business Success?

With the ever-changing dress code in our workplaces, we are starting to ask ourselves, is “dressing” for work dead? I decided to do some research on this topic. As stylists we are constantly getting feedback from our clients that their workplaces are going to the “jeans look” for every day not just casual Fridays. What makes quality denim? Is it the strength of the fibers, the weave, the shade of the wash, or something else? Selvedge Japanese denim, known for its premium construction and the skilled, artisanal craft required to make it, is some of the most sought after denim, but sometimes, the best isn’t the most attractive, comfortable or, as in this case, affordable. With that said,...

How Does a Fashion Trend Start?

We often seem to recognize a trend when it is in full force.  However, that is never how it starts.  The beginning of a trend is like putting only one toe in the water, it slowly tests itself on the fashion scene.  Let’s go back to 2006, when leggings came on the scene.  They were mostly in hosiery and we were wearing them with skirts and dresses.  Not everyone embraced them, in fact the first time I wore them, my husband said to me, “What the hell do you have on?”  Of course it was useless explaining the look to him, I wore them anyway regardless of his confusion.  A few years later, leggings were introduced in a heavier fabric so they...
